The map displays bathing water locations and their quality for the latest (2025) as well as previous bathing seasons. Data is presented at two levels:

  • Country level (less detailed scale): Countries are shaded in blue tones representing the proportion of bathing waters rated as "Excellent." Clicking on a country opens a pop-up window showing the number of bathing waters in each quality class.

  • Bathing water level (more detailed scale): Each bathing site is colored in accordance to quality status achieved in 2025 bathing season. Clicking on a site opens a pop-up window with additional information, including the bathing water’s name, coordinates, a link to its national bathing water profile, and its quality classification.

The quality status of the bathing waters is based on two microbiological parameters (Escherichia coli and Intestinal enterococci) as set out in Directive 2006/7/EC, Article 5 and Annexes I and II. The quality status describes the microbiological quality of water, provided that enough samples are available, as established in Directive 2006/7/EC, Article 4(3). Bathing waters can achieve one of four quality classes: "Excellent", "Good," "Sufficient," or "Poor." If there are not enough samples available for quality classification, the status "Not classified" is applied. The historical data, listed in the pop-up window which opens by clicking on bathing water site, includes the bathing water quality classification for the past eleven years (2015-2025), where available.

[ "Bathing water", "Water quality", "WISE", "EEA", "BWD", "European Environment Agency", "EC", "ETC BE"
Map Service
ArcGIS", "ArcGIS Server", "Data", "Map Service", "Service"
[ [ -63.1471100002979, -21.3806000003382 ], [ 55.7478399997764, 70.0886075760726 ]
E308
WGS_1984_Web_Mercator_Auxiliary_Sphere
EEA, Bathing waters data and coordinates: Member states authorities.
