Data is presented at two levels: </span></p><ul><li><p><span>Country level (less detailed scale): Countries are shaded in blue tones representing the proportion of bathing waters rated as "Excellent." Clicking on a country opens a pop-up window showing the number of bathing waters in each quality class. </span></p></li><li><p><span>Bathing water level (more detailed scale): Each bathing site is colored in accordance to quality status achieved in 202</span><span>5</span><span> bathing season. Clicking on a site opens a pop-up window with additional information, including the bathing water’s name, coordinates, a link to its national bathing water profile, and its quality classification. </span></p></li></ul><p><span>The quality status of the bathing waters is based on two microbiological parameters (Escherichia coli and Intestinal enterococci) as set out in Directive 2006/7/EC, Article 5 and Annexes I and II. The quality status describes the microbiological quality of water, provided that enough samples are available, as established in Directive 2006/7/EC, Article 4(3). Bathing waters can achieve one of four quality classes: "Excellent", "Good," "Sufficient," or "Poor." If there are not enough samples available for quality classification, the status "Not classified" is applied. The historical data, listed in the pop-up window which opens by clicking on bathing water site, includes the bathing water quality classification for the past eleven years (201</span><span>5</span><span>-202</span><span>5</span><span>), where available. </span></p></div></div></div></div>
